Whether you’re getting married indoors in a barn, castle or house, or outdoors in a field, woodland or tipi I think wedding lighting is one of the things that is so important yet often gets overlooked when planning. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the lighting for our own wedding. We are getting married in May so hopefully during the day lighting won’t be an issue but in the evening I want the lighting to be magical and so I’ve been looking at what our venue provides and if we need any extra.

For indoor weddings candlelight can be absolutely gorgeous and create really beautiful lighting for your photographer. However lots of venues don’t allow open flames so its best to always check this with your venue first. Explore other options and see if they will allow tealights in mason jars ? Or create alternative lighting with hanging ‘edison’ bulb light installations if possible. A friend of mine created a lovely ambience for her evening reception by using battery powered table lamps in the centres of her round tables for her evening reception, as candles or hanging installations weren’t allowed. These can often be hired quite cheaply from wedding hire companies.

Outside I absolutely adore festoon lighting which strung across an outdoor space can create a gorgeous party atmostphere … or fairy lights strung between trees en masse gives a beautiful magical feel. In fact anything hanging from trees if you have them at your wedding venue or reception looks amazing so definitely utilise anything you have to string lighting from!

I hope that gives you a few ideas for your own wedding … I’m going to go off now and dream about my hopefully festoon light and fairy light filled wedding reception!
