I absolutely love it when I get brief from a bespoke client which really speaks to what I am enjoying designing right now and Holly & Joe’s modern grey and white save the date cards were exactly that. When I got a call from Holly to discuss her wedding stationery design we clicked straight away and I loved her ideas and Pinterest board she sent me that she had put together for her wedding. Not only that but they are getting married on the same day as me next year. I have to say I’d been wary about taking on too many orders which would clash with my own wedding but I loved Holly’s brief so much that I felt I couldn’t turn it down!
I started with the design for the Save the Date cards. We decided to keep the colour scheme to just one of the colours in her wedding, dove grey, plus a neutral crisp white. I always advise clients to introduce a colour scheme gradually if they are sending out Save the Date cards .. it leaves a nice surprise for the guests when they receive their invitations and see the whole colour scheme in full!
So we kept things beautifully simple for Holly’s Save the Dates with a modern calligraphy style font and then I hand drew a simple floral design for the wording side of the card with a clear modern typeface in grey. To go with Holly’s slightly rustic theme I included brown kraft envelopes so the whole look felt very modern and elegant but with a slight rustic twist, without going down the whole masses of brown kraft card and hessian route.
I was really pleased with the result and I can’t wait to design Holly & Joe’s invitation suites later in the year!
