We may not have had any snow here in Torquay, but Fairytale of New York is playing on repeat and I’ve been mainlining boozy hot chocolate to keep warm! Before winding down for Christmas and taking a much-needed break, let’s look back on 2022 and celebrate some of Knots & Kisses’ best bits…

Surviving Tough Times

On a personal level, I had a pretty tough start to the year. In January, I had an operation on the tendons in my foot and was incapacitated for quite a while. I even ended up doing my first couple of weddings on crutches in March and early April! It was a challenging time but we muddled through with help from my amazing family and some wonderful freelance assistants.

Gorgeous Weddings

With the ghost of Covid still hovering at the beginning of 2022, I clung to the promise of a busy wedding season. After so many postponements in 2020 and 2021, I was over the moon to see some of my clients finally able to get married!

As well as returning to venues I know and love, I had the pleasure of working at some amazing places for the first time. I can’t wait to be back at Nancarrow Farm, Camel Studios, Pynes House, Polhawn Fort, Powderham Castle and Port Eliot Estate at some point in the future. I also had a couple of adventures away from the South West with gorgeous weddings at Forty Hall in London and Shindig Wedding Barn in Wales.

Transforming a Blank Canvas

I was super lucky to work on several weddings where I really tested my skills and realised how much I enjoy styling blank canvas wedding venues. I’ve loved helping clients fully design and transform spaces where we need to hire in all the furniture, zone different areas and think about everything from bars to outdoor seating. There’s more to come on this in a future blog post!

Stylish Editorial Shoots

Despite a crazy summer of weddings, I also managed to get involved in some new styled shoots this year. I created a 70s disco vibe with World Inspired Tents at Darts Farm and a Mediterranean sunset inspired shoot at Brickhouse Vineyard. The latter has just been featured on Love My Dress which is always such an honour!

Taking Care of Myself

2022 taught me some important lessons about managing my time and not taking on too much. With so many weddings this summer and some personal challenges behind the scenes, taking time out whenever we could became even more crucial. This also led to the sad decision to cancel Not Your Average Wedding Show this year. I was massively disappointed, but deep down I know it was absolutely the right decision for my own mental and physical health. Fingers crossed we’ll be able to revisit the project at some point in the future.

And on that note, I want to let you know we’re taking a month off from Saturday 17th December to Tuesday 17th January. We’ll be spending time with family before heading off to Malaysia for a much-needed holiday. I won’t have access to emails or Instagram Messenger during this time but don’t let this stop you getting in touch. I’ll be back, refreshed, and replying to all new enquiries on Wednesday 18th January. I can’t wait to hear from you and find out how I can help with your weddings in 2023 and beyond!
