The last 6 months for Knots & Kisses has been a total whirlwind. Setting up the styling and design side of the business has been amazing and the culmination of many years work. Over the last few months I’ve been co-ordinating and styling lots of ‘styled wedding shoots’ which are fantastic for inspiration for any of you getting married and also a great way of wedding suppliers showing what they can do. The shoot I want to share with you today is my Industrial Luxe Wedding shoot which was the first ever shoot I designed and co-ordinated and went on to appear in Rock My Wedding!

The inspiration for the shoot started with a visit to the wonderful Great Fulford and the beautiful but slightly dilapidated rooms with their bare brick and peeling plaster. It automatically evoked feelings of Great Expecations for me and Miss Havisham’s dining room. A feel of faded beauty and elegance which I thought would be a beautiful backdrop for a shoot.

My aim was to inspire couples to realise the opportunity to set their wedding in more unusual places than your average manor house – that industrial and run down spaces could be the perfect backdrop for a wedding.

My design concept was to create a wedding look with that feel of faded beauty and so I created a palette to work to of faded pinks, greys and browns to give that really washed out and windswept feel. I wanted the styling elements to feel like they had been there waiting to be discovered for many years. Myself, and Emma from Brompton Buds worked closely on the tablescape so it felt like the flowers were tumbling from the urn – blown down the table.

The scheme needed to have a really luxe feel and we really wanted the juxtaposition of beautiful luxury fabrics and finishes against the bare brick, plaster and rust finishes. I mixed in old antique cutlery and vintage bottles with tapered candles.

I kept all of the styling for the set ups very loose and free flowing – with finishing touches of scattered petals so everything just felt like it had fallen there.

I brought together a team of local suppliers as I really wanted to showcase the talent that is here in the South West along with the beautiful venue, which is just starting to host weddings through West Country Wedding Planner.

Photographer Clare Kinchin worked closely with me and totally got the vision for the shoot, and along with Tina from Te Amo Brides we picked out some stunning dresses to create the luxe feel we wanted. The addition of veils was incredibly important and we hired in a wind machine to create the windswept feel we wanted. Wrapped around the face and sitting on the forehead in a Mantilla style really added to the atmosphere.

Make-up and hairstyling by Genevieve Satha and The Up Do Girl was kept minimal and ethereal with a loose undone style adorned with stunning hair accessories created by The Lucky Sixpence specifically for the shoot.

It was important to me to hire in beautiful fabrics for this shoot so we borrowed some gorgeous silk runners and fabrics from West Country Wedding Planner. Teamed with the more rustic elements such as the shutters that I used as a ceremony backdrop from Virginias Vintage Hire I was able to create the mix of industrial and luxe that I wanted.

Laura at Sugar Mamas Cakery was able to create a bare plaster finish cake which looked perfect and I styled the cake table with some more rustic elements and some gorgeous macarons.

I also had some wonderful blush and grey ribbons hand painted by Ollie’s Studio which added the perfect finishing touch to not only my stationery designs but ribbons for the bouquet as well.
